Beer Stlyes and Categorization

Our 1st Annual Big Muddy Monster Home Brew Contest is sanctioned by the American Home Brewers Association (AHA) and the Beer Judge Certification Program (BJCP). Entries will be judged by BJCP Certified Judges, Professional Brewers or other Professionals in the Field when possible.

The homebrew competition will be open to all amateur adult brew masters and open to all styles and sub-styles of beer in BJCP categories 1 through 23 (see the BJCP website for more information on these categories). Mead and Cider entries will not be included this year.

Entry window for Beer entries opens Sept. 24th. Entry deadline is Oct. 8th, 2010.

Submit two 10-14 ounce bottles with no distinguishing marks on the bottle or cap. Blacked out caps are OK.

Entrant Information Form: Please complete this form ONE TIME ONLY for each entrant. No club affiliation is necessary to enter.

Entry Listing Form: Only one Entrant Info form per person is needed, but use additional copies of the Entry List if needed to list all of your entries. Please include any additional notes that are required by BJCP guidelines for styles 20-23. See BJCP style guidelines for the specific requirements.

Bottle Labels: Cut out the bottle labels and affix a Bottle Label with the requisite information to each bottle with rubber band(s) – do not use tape (fold & rubber band a Bottle ID Form to each of the two bottles). Be sure to include the Entry Number, the BJCP category code (e.g. 2B for Bohemian Pilsner), the Style Name, and any additional information needed. Please ensure that the information on the Bottle Label is complete and matches that on the Entry Listing and Entrant Information Forms. There is no limit on the number of entries an individual may submit, but only one entry per sub-category will be allowed. Copy the Bottle Labels page as needed.

The cost is $5 per entry. Enclose a check for the total amount of your entries. Checks can be made out to “Friends of Murphysboro”.

All shipped entries must be sent to the location below. Pack your entries carefully and time them to arrive before Oct. 8th, 2010. Late entries will not be accepted.

Entries that are delivered in person can be dropped off at the above location. All entries will be refrigerated upon receipt.

Categories may be combined if there are insufficient entries in a given category.

Final judging is on Saturday, Oct. 16th. All entrants are invited to attend the Big Muddy Monster Brew Festival at Riverside Park (Murphysboro, IL) on Oct. 23rd starting at 1 PM. Admission is a separate fee.

Ribbons are awarded to the top three finishers in each category during our Awards ceremony starting at approximately 3:30 PM.

We will get the score sheets in the mail as soon as possible, along with any ribbons that were not picked up during the Awards Ceremony.

Big Muddy Monster HomeBrew Competition – Call For Judges/Stewards Registration

Friends of Murphysboro is proud to announce its 1st Homebrew Competition, Big Muddy Monster BrewFest. Judging will take place on October 16th starting at 8:30AM sharp (location to be announced at a later date). The winners of the competition will be announced on Saturday, October 23rd at Riverside Park, Murphysboro, IL during the Big Muddy Monster Brew Festival.

JUDGES & STEWARDS

We are looking for some help to have a successful competition, please fill out the attached registration form to volunteer as a judge or steward. In addition to breakfast, judges and stewards will receive experience points towards advancement in the BJCP. All volunteers are requested to arrive by 8:30AM for breakfast with first round judging to commence shortly thereafter.
