Vintage baseballUploaded by treetopproductionssi Exciting highlights from the Vintage baseball tournament between the Murphysboro Clarkes and the St. Louis Perfectos, held at the first annual Shawnee Hills Wine Trail Wine & Arts Festival, Memorial weekend 2008 at Riverside Park.
Riverside Park is located on the Southwest side of Murphysboro, Illinois, and is bordered by the Big Muddy River on the back side. It is a beautiful park that boasts one of only two existing concrete shell amphitheaters in the state of Illinois. At one hundred years of age it is the seventh oldest park in the state, and also features an accommodating baseball field with grandstands.
The Friends of Murphysboro as an organization, is always looking for motivated, creative individuals with a desire to make a difference in our area. By finding ways to involve area businesses and individuals in community based projects, we can improve Southern Illinois as a tourism location, and grow as a whole. Getting involved is very easy. Maybe you have suggestions for future events at the park, or would like to help in another way. It is as easy as telling us your thoughts, questions or comments. Simply click on the Add comment tab and let us know whats on your mind. movie courtesy of Treetop Productions SI
As the first to contribute to the fund that helps pay for Friends of Murphysboro projects, Chresta Lockard is our first ‘Honorary Friend of Murphysboro’.A lifelong resident, Chresta has seen the park change over time and realizes the need to preserve this beautiful piece of Southern Illinois history. Without the support of individuals like Chresta, many F.O.M. projects would be impossible. Each indiviual or organization that contributes, (time, monetary donations, or materials/services), to a F.O.M. community project will be permanently listed on our web site as an honorary member. Its our way of saying ‘thanks’ for helping us reach a higher standard.
